This audio episode really brought back great memories for me.
The concert took place in Toledo in April of 1975.
I had just gotten used to playing small clubs with my small band and singers. And then my manager called and told me the demand for tickets in Toledo was so great that they wanted me to play in a 5,000 seat auditorium.
I panicked. “No way!”, I said to him on the phone. “5,000 people? They’ll never show up and besides, I have no idea how to perform for that many people!”
Well, they convinced me to give it a try and Toledo was the first auditorium.
You can hear the sound of the reaction – loud applause for long periods of time after each song.
It absolutely floored me and my band and singers.
I’ll never forget this show.
And it was the beginning and a new life for me.
Once again, we apologize for the quality of the recording, but I’m so glad we have it at all.
