Live In Japan 1985
Osaka-jo Hall
Osaka City, Japan
June 6th, 1985
We were in Japan when we first saw this video. We were near the end of our Japanese tour when someone brought the DVD into my dressing room and we started to watch it.
It was the first time we’d ever seen and heard audio and video of that quality. We all flipped out.
It’s been a long time since I watched this one and the quality is just as terrific as I remembered it.
The Japanese audiences were wonderful. I had written cue cards with my introductions written out in phonetic Japanese. I loved these people so much, I wanted to be able to talk with them, so I butchered their language, but I think they understood what I was trying to say. I hope so.
At the end of the show, I sang “Sakura, Sakura” a very famous folk song about the cherry blossoms. I substituted my own chord changes for the original and ended it more like an American pop song. I think they liked it. I LOVED doing it.
Oh, I loved this tour. Japan is such an interesting country. So far away from everything I knew. These people were so kind to us. So encouraging to us. I felt an immediate kinship to them.
This show reminds me of a wonderful time in my life. I hope you can feel it.

Act II ran much longer than the BBC version of the concert so it includes a batch of songs that have never been seen.
It also includes all of the encores that weren’t on any of the p...
