Summer of '78 Special
VH1
March 10, 1997
Hi Everyone.
This month’s episode of ManilowTV is a rare TV show. I taped this one for VH-1 in 1997 when they were doing their “70’s month”. I had just finished recording “Summer of ‘78” so it was a perfect fit.
When I got to the studio, I realized that the VH-1 staff expected me to wing it! Just make up the whole show on the spot! That was kind of terrifying! But I like a challenge! So I went for it.
Bruce and I had written this wonderful song a few years earlier called “Solo” – a song about going it alone and I’d always wanted to perform it. This was the perfect place to do it – an hour show all alone.
I was surprised that I remembered how the song went since I’d never performed it, but it’s such a great lyric and I love my melody, that I dove in – and I got through it!
I really like this show. It’s different than anything I’ve ever done.
Hope you like it too.

In 1990 we played th...
