Hi Everyone,
This month’s MTV is very special.
The show was taped in 2009 during the BMIFC Convention.
To make the three Convention shows special, I decided to stage songs from “Here At The Mayflower”, the album that had gotten such positive reaction when it was released in 2001 – 8 years earlier.
My band, my BG singers, the crew and the brilliant Seth Jackson, who outdid himself on lights and effects, helped me to create as close to a Broadway Musical as we could.
We opened the show, as usual with “It’s A Miracle” and around 25 minutes of pop hits.
And then…and then…we went from a pop show to a Broadway show.
The response for each song kept getting bigger and bigger and we were all so grateful for the Convention folks’ incredible reactions.
I was very nervous when we released “Here At The Mayflower” in 2001. It certainly wasn’t your typical pop album. But as the sales began to climb and the word of mouth began to spread and the reviews came in, I began to believe that all of the work we did might just be worth it.
Staging “Here At The Mayflower” was hard work, but as we all sang “Welcome Home” at the end of the piece we all felt so proud of what we had done.
Nobody has ever seen this staged version of “Here At The Mayflower” and I’m grateful to Marc for finding it.
And mostly to all of you who were in the audience that weekend in 2009.
Enjoy!
Barry
